Board Briefs – November 12, 2024

At the Regular Meeting in November, the Glynn County Board of Education unanimously approved the purchase of 45 Opengate Weapons Detection Systems from A3 Communications for $858,358.86. Funded through ESPLOST IV, these systems will enhance security by screening people, backpacks, purses, and bags for weapons at all schools, the Golden Isles College and Career Academy and Risley Annex.

Additionally, the Board approved the October 2024 minutes and the following consent agenda items:

  • September 2024 Financial Report: Year-to-date revenues are at 11.8% of the budget, and expenditures are at 20.2%. Sales tax collections in September 2024 were 3.39% higher than in September 2023.
  • Technology Surplus: Declared old data center hardware as surplus following a 2023 refresh.
  • Brunswick High Field House Addition: Approved a guaranteed maximum price of $433,244 for Phase 1 site work, including new geothermal lines, relocation of existing lines, fiber optic line relocation, and a $20,000 allowance for turf repairs.

Work Session Update

During the Work Session on November 7, the Board received updates on:

  • GLEE Program (Glynn Early Education Program): Currently serving 45 students with a team of seven full-time employees, one part-time employee, and two long-term substitutes.
  • 2025 Board Meeting Dates
  • LEAP/Employee Education Program: A partnership with the College of Coastal Georgia to help school paraprofessionals earn education degrees. Currently, 15 paraprofessionals are enrolled, with Cohort 1 graduating in May 2025 and Cohort 2 preparing for practicum next year. Applications for Cohort 3 open in Spring 2025.
