IDT application window opens Dec. 7

As a parent or guardian of a student currently enrolled in the Glynn County School District, we are notifying you of House Bill 251 (HB 251), a law signed by Governor Perdue in 2009 that allows parents of public school students in Georgia the opportunity to enroll their child in designated schools within the local school district in which they reside. Requests for transfers must be submitted to the school district office through the online application.

As a parent or guardian, you can request to have your child transferred to another public school within the school district as long as the district has determined that there is available classroom space at the school you requested. If you choose to transfer your child to another school in the district, the law requires you to assume all costs and responsibilities related to the transportation of your child to and from the school. A student may be returned to his/her zoned school for excessive absenteeism, tardiness, or behavior problems that may occur.

If a parent requests a transfer to a school that does not have the services required by the current Individualized Education Plan (IEP), HB 251 does not require the school to develop those services as long as they are available within the school system.

Once students have approval for a transfer, they will be eligible to complete the highest grade level at the school to which they transfer; however, transferring students who complete the highest grade level at the school do not automatically receive enrollment preference to the feeder school.

Students transferring under HB 251 shall be subject to the eligibility requirements of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA). Please contact the Glynn County Athletic Director for further information.

In order to process your request, you will need to complete and submit the attached “HB251 Transfer Request Form.” Requests for transfers must be submitted electronically through the district website between December 7, 2020 and January 22, 2021. The application process is electronic; applications will be available online through the Glynn County Schools website beginning on Monday, December 7, 2020.

In the event a particular school or grade level has available space and the number of transfer requests exceeds the remaining available capacity, transfer requests may be approved or denied based on a lottery. Once available classroom space is reached at a school, no more transfers will be accepted at that school. Parents will be notified of student transfer decisions by February 12, 2021.
