My name is Brett Baxter and I am a 39-year-old big kid! I was born in Brunswick, Ga, however my mother and I moved when I was young and I grew up in High Point, North Carolina.  The Georgia coast has always felt like home to me as I spent every summer and many holidays here visiting my dad and family. I am married to a wonderful woman named Mallary, who supports and encourages my journey and passion for education.  In my free time I enjoy, bike riding, beach/water activities, listening to and playing music, and above all else being Uncle Brett to my 3 beautiful nieces and 13 wild and wonderful nephews! I look forward to a wonderful year here at GIES and am proud to be a part of this OHANA (family)!!!

I have a bachelor's degree in early childhood/special education from the College of Coastal Georgia.  I began teaching early on at a family childcare center which provided much experience prior to receiving a college education.    Teaching and learning are a great passion of mine and have been a part of my professional life for over 20 years.  I am also a big sports fan and have a special interest in Astronomy and Space Exploration.  I look forward to a wonderful year in our classroom and am excited to have your child and family involved in our learning community.

My Vision

My goal, first and foremost, is to establish and provide a safe and respectful learning environment.  A strong learning community begins with a sense of involvement and ownership for each student. I feel it is essential to involve children in their academic careers by giving them a voice and establishing the path for their greatest success. I believe through individual assessment, planning developmentally and individually appropriate activities, and providing feedback for students, I can facilitate a collaborative community beneficial to all students. It is also my strong belief that all children deserve the right to demonstrate what skills they possess. As an educator, it is my responsibility to provide activities that sharpen the skills while working diligently to close any academic or developmental gaps that may exist.
